Despite the blizzard that wreaked havoc to several states over the weekend, New York’s semi-annual Fashion Week continued. No doubt it all boiled down to economics as analysts say these events generate $865 million in economic impact annually for the city. The shows started on Thursday, a day before the blizzard hit the Big Apple and continued despite it. So here are my picks from the various shows that managed to weather out the storm.
On the first day, the bold patterns, the contrasting fabrics and the dramatic draping on the outfits on the runway made their big impression on the viewers. From mixed prints and leather to luxurious lace, Thursday’s shows managed to wow audiences despite the impending snow storm. Here are some of my favorites on Thursday shows runways.
I would have to say that my most favorite collection among those that were presented during New York Spring 2013 Fashion Week is Jason Wu’s collection. The celebration of contrasts is, to my mind, what makes his collection so special. I love that he is able to show feminine strength and aggressiveness in a sensual manner all in one outfit by using a play colors and textures that are so cleverly put together. The contradictory and often complex feminine personality is evident in each piece. The urban strength of the modern woman is side-y-side with her romanticism. His talent is pure genius and his ability to us contrasting materials to emphasize the female body and her complex psyche is what makes his collection stand out from among the rest. His is a collection that celebrates modern women.
