Alas! Not all of us are born with a body that is worthy of the cover of FHM. Those of us who have given birth many times over and simply do not have the time nor the energy to work out and get their bodies toned nor the dollars to have their bodies artificially shaped after child birth have to get by simply by choosing what to wear with a lot of thought and creativity.

I have turned to color-blocked shirts time and again for that slimming look for special occasions or when I simply when to feel good about myself. Bold blocks of color deceive the eye and give the illusion of a slimmer torso. Just stay away from horizontal blocks as horizontal lines make you bigger. Look for a shirt with a bolder color towards the center of your torso. If possible, find one where the bold color slims as it flows through the midsection creating the illusion of a curvier torso. Worn with the right pants or skirt, it elongates the figure as well making you look slimmer and taller, too.

    

A slim skirt can always be depended upon for a slimming effect contrary to what you think. Hiding under volumes of fabric only makes you look bigger. Go for a slim style with seaming and uses smart placement of color and patterns that will help create the illusion of a sleek and sexy look. 

    

Choosing the right dress that elongates and slims the body from shoulder to hemline is also a great instant slimmer. This is done through the proper blocking of colors. Placed right at the waist, large blocks also help to take inches off the waist area for a curvier appeal. 

  

The wrap dress is a wise choice as the draping that comes with the style is ideal for covering bulges that you wish to hide. Moreover, this style comes in at the waist which is anybody’s slimmest spot. A lot of us may not know this but this classic style is the best shape constructed to slim and elongate. 

 

When it comes to pants, I often find myself looking out of slim legs with a side stripe. I found a great pair once with a slimming stripe placed slightly forward from the center which really tricks the eye and helps to create the illusion of slimness. I find that it does the job best and I am hoping I can find more pairs with the same style. 

   

When shopping for blazers for that corporate appeal and style, I look out for those that are nipped in at the waist. I shop for ones that look sharp, sculpt the waist and just generally streamline my look. It is important to try it on to see the general effect of the blazer on my body.
